Technical Specialist, Climate and Nature

Permanent employee, Full-time · London

About The Role
This role sits within FAIRR’s Data and Research team, which is responsible for developing investor tools and benchmarks—including the Protein Producer Index and Climate Risk Tool—to assess sustainability risks and opportunities in the agri-food sector.

The successful candidate will play a key role in quantifying the financial materiality of climate and nature risks for the food sector, supporting the further evolution of FAIRR’s suite of data and modelling tools, while building out new projects on nature related risks such as water. This role bridges technical expertise with strategic communication—converting model insights into convincing outputs for internal teams, investors, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise
  • Interpret and apply climate change scenarios (e.g. SSPs, RCPs, NGFS) using FAIRR’s existing tools—such as the Climate Risk Tool—and future analytical platforms, such as Water Risk Monitor.
  • Contribute to the present and future integration of FAIRR data into these tools
  • Communicate key insights clearly to diverse audiences, including investors and other external and internal stakeholders.
  • Explore interlinkages between climate, water, and other nature risks within the agri-food value chain.
  • Apply a working understanding of Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) to interpret outputs and assess their relevance for agri-food sector risk and opportunity analysis.
  • Monitor and apply emerging sustainability frameworks and regulations—including Scope 1–3 emissions, deforestation legislation (e.g. EUDR), and disclosure standards (e.g. ISSB, CSRD, TCFD)—to ensure FAIRR’s tools and insights align with investor and regulatory expectations.
Project Management
  • Support the delivery of organisational strategy and technical projects related to the strategy led by FAIRR’s Climate & Nature Economist, including enhancements to the Climate Risk Tool and the development as well as promotion of FAIRR’s upcoming Water Risk Monitor.
  • Coordinate day-to-day project activities, helping to maintain timelines, track milestones, and align internal and external expectations related to project outputs.
  • Liaise with external consultants, data providers, and internal teams to ensure alignment and smooth execution.
  • Monitor progress across workstreams, flag risks or delays, and propose adjustments to support timely, high-quality delivery.
Writing and Presentation
  • Translate scenario modelling outputs into clear, decision-useful insights for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Draft reports, briefings, and investor-facing publications grounded in evidence and insights from analysis.
  • Support the preparation of presentations, webinars, and data visualisations to communicate key findings to internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to the delivery of presentations and represent the team when needed, stepping in to present insights in internal meetings, investor meetings, or public forums as required.
Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Act as a liaison between the team and other internal functions to gather input, share updates, and ensure alignment on project priorities and external engagement by preparing summaries and emails to support coordination and clear communication.
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams (e.g., Investor Outreach, Policy, Communications) to ensure timely publication of project outputs, while maintaining clarity, visibility, and alignment across FAIRR’s internal workstreams.
  • Maintain internal records, meeting notes, and documentation using FAIRR’s platforms (e.g. Salesforce, Asana, SharePoint).
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Communication
  • Act as a spokesperson or facilitator to present complex modelling insights in a clear and engaging manner, in line with FAIRR’s presentation and communication guidelines, to external audiences.
  • Support the onboarding and training using FAIRR’s scenario analysis tools and datasets.
  • Contribute to cross-team planning, including data strategy development and horizon scanning to inform future work.
  • Help prepare for key meetings—such as technical advisory groups—and step in to lead or present when required.
Operations & Monitoring
  • Track and report on key project and tool KPIs (e.g. investor engagement, tool usage, feedback loops).
  • Coordinate and support virtual and in-person events, workshops, and webinars.
  • Maintain robust internal processes for documentation, quality assurance, and knowledge sharing.

Essential Criteria
  • 5+ years of experience in climate, sustainability, or environmental finance.
  • Familiarity with scenario analysis and modelling frameworks such as Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) and their relevance in scenario analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical research projects end-to-end.
  • Strong attention to detail, with curiosity to explore data and generate meaningful insights.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including giving presentations, conducting meetings, and writing reports.
  • Experience working within an investor network or creating content and tools tailored for an investor audience.
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge of key sustainability frameworks and regulations (e.g. Scope 1–3 emissions, TCFD, CSRD, EUDR).
  • Experience with the agri-food sector, including its sustainability risks and opportunities.
  • Experience with internal project tracking or CRM tools (e.g. Asana, Salesforce, SharePoint).
