Interim Director, Investor Outreach (Mat Cover; 1 Year FTC)

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Director on an interim basis to cover a period of maternity leave to lead the Investor Outreach function, this is a critical leadership role at FAIRR. As a member of FAIRR’s Executive Committee, the Director will play a central role in organisational decision-making, shaping the external positioning of FAIRR’s work, and building long-term strategic partnerships across the investment ecosystem.

The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight of a multidisciplinary team ensuring that the investor lens perspective is embedded across FAIRR’s research and initiatives. The Director will enhance the integration of financial materiality into FAIRR’s research and investor products, outputs, drive value for investors. During the maternity cover period, the Director will work closely with team leads including the Director of Communications and Marketing who will take on increased leadership roles in specific workstreams.

Externally, the Director of Investor Outreach leads FAIRR’s global investor engagement strategy, managing key investor relationships, identifying new partnership opportunities, acting as an ambassador of FAIRR with the investment community and in international investment forums and driving member recruitment and retention. This includes representing FAIRR at high-profile events, delivering thought leadership, and supporting targeted outreach to priority investor segments.

Key Responsibilities
Membership Relations 
  • Develop and oversee a membership strategy to deepen investor relationships, including, KPIs, and identifying value-add opportunities.
  • Account management for the top priority investor relationship in FAIRR’s network. This includes sensitive accounts, high-stakes relationships, and leading relationships within the highest seniority contacts at FAIRR’s investor member organisations.
  • Accountability for the delivery of a set of bespoke and high impact collaboration opportunities with investors including joint reports, research, events and case studies
  • Maintain accountability for key investor relationships in strategic geographies (USA, France, Switzerland, Canada, Southern Europe, and major UK accounts), tailoring FAIRR's offerings to investor priorities and use cases.
  • Serve as FAIRR’s primary relationship manager for investor-focused organisations and networks such as the country and global sustainable finance Forums (ex: UKSIF, FrenchSif, etc)
Investor Communications
  • Oversee FAIRR's investor communication strategy in collaboration with the Communications & Marketing team, ensuring appropriate targeting to specific investor categories as well as appropriate frequency, clarity, and relevance of messaging.
Prospect Outreach
  • Develop and oversee targeted strategies to expand and strengthen FAIRR’s investor network
  • Lead key recruitment efforts and pitches to high-priority investor prospects , particularly among asset owners and fixed income investors.
External Events and Thought Leadership
  • Represent FAIRR at major conferences, panels, media engagements, and investor events to amplify the organisation’s influence.
  • Collaborate with technical leads and other stakeholders to develop the agenda and presentation materials for FAIRR events ensuring they  are relevant for the audience and capture the investor lens.
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, oversee and support the execution of investor engagement and outreach activities, which increase awareness of the FAIRR brand, including hosting and attending:
    1. Networking events
    2. Investor roundtables
    3. Country roadshows
    4. Prospect and member meetings
    5. FAIRR hosted webinars and panels
    6. Taking part in press interviews in multiple media formats
Membership Journey and Segmentation Project
  • Accountable for the delivery of FAIRRs membership journey working in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Marketing
  • Oversee the segmentation of FAIRR’s investor network by category and archetype to inform tailored engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications & Marketing on the development and refinement of FAIRR’s membership journey to improve the investor experience across touchpoints and increase uptake of FAIRR’s tools and research.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications & Marketing on the delivery and ongoing enhancement of the member dashboard to provide tailored, data-driven insights.
  • Oversee the execution of the Annual Investor Survey and implement improved methods to integrate investor feedback into FAIRR’s strategy and outputs.
Cross-Functional Influence and Collaboration
  • Act as FAIRR’s senior lead on investor relations, ensuring investor priorities are effectively integrated across the Products, Research, Policy, and Communications teams.
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships to enable operational integration, shared accountability, and coordinated delivery across teams.
  • Ensure FAIRR’s deliverables align with investor needs by disseminating and embedding investor feedback - both qualitative and quantitative - into strategic planning and outputs.
  • Strengthen the financial materiality case for FAIRR membership by clearly linking research, tools, and themes to investment risks and opportunities, supporting investor confidence and external scrutiny.
  • Establish clear collaboration goals and deliverables with other teams to maintain active investor engagement, improve the member experience, and track satisfaction.
  • Contribute to wider organisational initiatives (e.g., the FAIRRy project) by sharing market insights, delivering internal training, and supporting process improvements.
Team Leadership
  • Develop and articulate a compelling vision for the Investor Outreach function that aligns with FAIRR’s organisational strategy. Define clear team goals, KPIs, and delivery milestones, holding regular planning sessions to align on priorities, execution timelines, and investor feedback.
  • Design and implement strategies to build and sustain a high-performing team, ensuring the function evolves in line with emerging opportunities.
  • Manage team resourcing and structure to optimise delivery against FAIRR’s goals, recognising individual strengths and aligning roles accordingly.
  • Foster a coaching-led culture that encourages open feedback, collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation. 
  • Promote career development by identifying skill gaps, supporting progression pathways, and celebrating individual and team achievements.
Organisational Leadership

  • Represent the Investor Outreach & Collaboration function on FAIRR’s Executive Committee.
  • Contribute to FAIRR’s broader organisational strategy and help shape new areas of strategic growth.
  • Support the Executive Director in strengthening FAIRR’s visibility and capability.
  • Contribute to a collaborative leadership culture by supporting wider organisational initiatives and external representation beyond core responsibilities.
Operational Management
  • Drive significant impact and improvements across their function; strategically planning for how people and processes scale.
  • Lead departmental planning, budgeting, and performance evaluation.
  • Oversee the provision of management and data reporting and strategic plans for the investor outreach team.
  • Ensure that processes, procedures, databases, systems and templates are effective and fit for purpose, with continuous review and improvement
  • Ensure all investor interactions and activities are accurately tracked in Salesforce to enable data-driven decision-making.
Essential Criteria
  • Minimum 12 years of experience relationship management and business development skills, preferably within the financial sector (i.e. investor relations), or within other service-based industries, such as management consulting.  With several of these years operating in a leadership role
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven track record of managing high performing teams
  • Demonstrable experience in leading meetings and pitches to investment executives, corporates and policymakers at all levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of responsible investments, as well as contacts with key professionals at major asset owners, investment managers and consultancies, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of global capital markets including the requirements of the various roles within the investment industry and their ESG research and data requirements.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification; Master’s degree in one or more relevant fields and/or a recognised investment qualification preferable.
  • Strong understanding of how ESG, climate, and nature-related risks are integrated into institutional investment strategies
  • Executive-level communication skills, including experience with high-profile public speaking and media engagement
  • Able to travel globally (approximately 25% of the role will be spent travelling)
  • Highly IT literate (Advanced MS Office suite and databases (Salesforce or another similar CRM tool)
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in not-for-profit or hybrid-impact organisations.
  • Prior experience / knowledge of the food and agriculture sector 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in another language (in addition to English) 
  • Multicultural experience and cultural sensitivity to adapt the messaging to investor audiences across countries
