Senior Manager (Food Technology)

About The Role
Location: 2 Portman Street, London (hybrid working available (with min 3 days per week in office)
Reporting to: Director, Thematic Research & Corporate Innovation

This role will be FAIRR’s in-house expert for investors and established food companies on the alternative protein sector. In addition, it will be required to assess, streamline, and expand our internal databases on market data, company activities, investments, technology developments, and developments in policy and regulation.


Key Responsibilities
Project Management
• Developing, executing and managing a new workstream focused on alternative proteins
• Project management (including regular project meetings, reviewing project plans; and regularly tracking outputs and impact)
• Contribute to special projects and other team activities.

People Management
• Direct line management of a Food Technology Analyst

Stakeholder management
• Internal cross-functional collaboration with the policy team to leverage our existing policy and regulation work to identify best practice and levers for change.
• Establish relationships with alternative protein companies and ensure that we grow our engagement with them.
• Actively engage and influence key stakeholders including NGOs, industry associations and policymakers to ensure better alignment on sustainability assessments and a pathway for regulatory approval for novel protein sources.
• Lead on both company- and industry-level research, with an emphasis on sustainability outcomes and financial impacts.
• Have a deep understanding of business models and the readiness of technologies, including their commercial potential, scalability and path to market.

Communications
• Represent FAIRR at external events and conferences in the responsible investment and food technology space.
• Monitoring scientific advances in the space, writing blogs/updates and communicating to our investor audiences and broader stakeholders as well as responding to queries.
Essential Criteria
• Demonstrable experience of working with corporates and/ or investors on food technology including alternative proteins; including a working knowledge of responsible investment and shareholder engagement activities.
• Functional expertise and understanding of the principles, methods, equipment and techniques used in food technology.
• Strong project management skills, including an ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines without compromising attention to detail. You will need to demonstrate you can lead a team to deliver projects in a timely manner.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills with the ability to perform independent research and analysis as well as manage a small team to deliver high-quality and market-leading content.
• Demonstrable experience of interacting and working with senior professionals, along with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
• Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and communicate both verbally (this role will involve presenting with impact) and in writing
• Fluency in spoken and written English with the ability to draft written materials (reports, blogs etc) to a professional standard with minimal review.
Desirable Criteria
• Previous research experience linked to alternative protein product development and manufacturing is highly desirable.
